Puentes de Cristo acknowledges the call of Jesus Christ to proclaim the good news of His Gospel in a holistic manner. To work as partners with our brothers and sisters in Christ along the US-Mexico border, and other international communities.
In response, our mission is to attend to the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of people with emphasis on the poorest populations in a constantly changing and dynamic world.
Puentes de Cristo was founded in 1981 by a group of pastors from the Rio Grande Valley on both the US and Mexican sides of the Border. In the 1980s and 1990s, numerous church groups from throughout the United States traveled to Hidalgo, Texas to participate in mission projects along the border. Most of these mission projects were in Mexico in partnership with the Mexican Presbyterian Church. As violence in Mexico increased, these mission projects slowed and finally stopped in 2011 when the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico severed ties with PCUSA.
Puentes de Cristo is in Hidalgo, Texas and is supported by many of the Valley’s Presbyterian Churches including FPC-McAllen and Presbyterian churches throughout the state of Texas.
